Freeze Frame Lists

Multiple names in a day are ordered according to actor seniority (which actor appeared earliest), not based on onscreen placement. Minor Characters and Day Players that appeared in freeze frames are listed last without any consideration for actor seniority.

The Freeze Frame Process

Freeze frame endings began with the December 25, 1981 episode. While the August 7, 1981 episode ended with a freeze frame, that was an exception made necessary by the cliffhanger ending. Freeze frame endings were phased out starting March 3, 1997, exceptional for the occasional episode.

"The final scene of our show is determined by our writers, and it is implemented in our studio. The freeze is chosen in the studio by the Director and the Producer. The scene then comes to us in the edit room, where we are able to jog through the video to find the clearest frame and we freeze and fade the scene. Sometimes we will zoom in, while the frame is frozen to intensify the moment. As a general rule, we freeze at the end of our show, there were rare occasions in the past where we simply did a long fade to black without a freeze, but the producers would almost always rather freeze and then fade." The number of times a character appears in a freeze frame, then broken down by actor. Due to the scarcity of episodes from December 1981 to May 1986, actors and characters who had been on prior to May 1986 will have a higher actual total than characters who debuted afterwards.
